What are little boys made of?

I have a very quick question for you.

What do little boys like?

I have been making presents for the last couple of years but this is the first time that I have to make a present for a little boy and I don't know what to do - we don't know many little boys!!! He's one of Maia's friends from Kindy and has just turned 5. If anyone can think of something to make, something quick and easy that is because it's his party on Sunday!, then I really would appreciate some advice! Many thanks. x

I have made bean bags (the throwing kind) each with a letter of the boys name appliqued on. Each bean bag a different shape and colour, and filled with split yellow peas.

Or how about a bag/ rucksack, perhaps camoflage material, or denim.

Also I've done a tie-dye t-shirt.

Hope some of this helps.

My sis has just sent my 4 1/2 yr old a personalised pillowcase. One side is camouflage with dinosaurs printed on it and she has machine embroidered his name across this side and the other side is made up of about 5 or 6 strips of fabric sewn together. It is very cool and my boy loooves it, he's sleeping on it or I'd photograph it and put it on my blog for you, lol. Actually you can see it here The Slightly Mad Quilt Lady.

Or a messenger type bag in a cool fabric, or with a spider web across the front or something similar.

Is 5 too old for capes, my boy still loves his.

Good luck!

My boy loves dragons, dinosaurs, batman, robots, swords, sticks, digging holes, treasure maps....

For his birthday this year I was thinking of making a pencil roll and then printing off line drawings I'd done in a drawing program of dragons etc. Or I'm sure you could find free colouring in pics online somewhere.

Also a wall hanging with his name on it and lots of pockets for treasures. Little drawstring bags in novelty fabrics for marbles, lego bits etc.

And my son still thinks his dino/dragon trackpants are the best. A cheap or thrifted pair of trackies then make a triangular tube shape about 60 cms long, stuff it and sew it on at butt height and you have dinosaur (or dragon) trousers! Best to make the tail out of hardwearing material though, little boys are rough!

HI Abi, I think that my idea's have already been covered. I always struggle with what to make Kalem, but even at his very old age of 8, he was thrilled with his pencil roll. He also loves his man-bag that I made him, if you decide to go with a bag, then remember boys LOVE pockets..... X

I have no clue ever what boys like so thanks for asking this question! I'm memorising the answers. All I know is boys like trains, space and dinosaurs and pockets for their treasures. The cape suggestion is a good one for a 5 yr old. Although 5 is going on 15 these days.

Oh, these are great ideas. My boys are only 2 and not yet one, so I don't have clue.
